According to details, some police officers had shot straight at the protesters who were protesting over the gruesome murder after rape of an 8-year-old girl Zainab in the Kasur district. The body of the girl had been found from a heap of garbage five days after she had gone missing.
An FIR had also been filed in the local police station of her going missing but the action taken by the police proved insufficient as they failed to find the girl and the perpetrator.
As the protests broke out throughout the city and some of the protesters entered the government buildings, police started firing in order to disperse the mob. Some policemen shot straight at the protesters, injuring at least three of them, out of which two later succumbed to injuries and died.
It is pertinent to mention here that a video of the police firing surfaced on Wednesday in which one police officer could be heard yelling at his colleague to not shoot straight at the protesters and fire in the air instead, but the other officer didn’t listen.
District Police Officer (DPO) of Kasur was also suspended on Wednesday and was replaced by Khanewal DPO.
