WASHINGTON: United States (US) State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert on Tuesday remarked that the US will back free, fair and accountable elections in Pakistan.
While addressing a press conference, Nauert asserted that the US along with other international partners supported the electoral reforms law 2017 passed by Pakistan.
She said that hopefully, the comprehensive legal and transparent framework effective for the first time, will surely pave way for a peaceful transition of democracy to the new civilian government.
US State Department spokesperson expressed that the US wishes that global observers monitor the upcoming elections of Pakistan.
Nauert upon being questioned about Colonel Joseph, responded that no further updates had been provided other than those already shared with the media.
Pakistan is set to have its general elections in July this year, as the government completes its tenure on May 31.
For the elections to be carried out transparently, an interim setup will be taking charge of the public offices to ensure free and fair elections. Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk has been elected as the caretaker Prime Minister (PM).
